Property Description
This oceanfront 5 acre sanctuary with panoramic views is located half a mile from the renowned Esalen Institute. Set on a private forested promontory with a fresh water spring and a rare Big Sur banana belt climate, the residence recently received comprehensive updates to it's infrastructure & landscaping. Designed by architects Francis Palms & Mickey Muennig, the main house features two stories of ocean facing glass, each with it's own wood burning stone fireplace. On the upper level, the grand cupolaed living room & open kitchen & their decks all enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific. The primary suite faces a fireplace with floor to ceiling glass allowing ocean views on each side, and the radiant heated marble floor bathroom's tub looks into it's own secret garden. Also upstairs is a traditional Japanese room with it's own zen garden with Bodhi Tree, as well as a study/kids room, a 1/2 bath, and a garage with interior access into the home. The lower level features a gorgeous Meunnig designed curved desk facing fireplace and ocean atop the heated Italian stone floor set between 2 bdrms, a bath, and 4 entrances to the oceanfront gardens. Nearby, a path leads to an adorable cottage with an endless pool. This very rare home literally embodies the serenity and spirit of Big Sur.
